Refugee Portrait Project

Using media, we produced and managed the Refugee Portrait Project to traverse borders and tell a story behind the greatest refugee crisis in modern history.

Done in partnership with Summit Series, the Worldwide Tribe, and photographer Sequoia Ziff, this collaboration was exhibited at Summit at Sea 2016. Sequoia was sent to Greece to live and volunteer at the self-run Oinofyta Camp and connect on a deeper level with her subjects.

Art emerges from empathy and understanding, and can transpose a sense of those two emotions to others. Empathy and understanding are essential to positive action, and the challenge faced by the team was to enable this in an honest, non-exploitative way.
